Civic Engagement

MENA Family Services partners with Houston Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights to advocate for the needs of immigrant communities. We believe it is vitally important to make sure MENA American voices are considered, when finalizing the state budget, and new legislative initiatives.

Tejara

In 2024, Middle East and North Africa Family Services launched a program to support individuals in preparing for employment. Within the first few months, our workforce development caseworker assisted 90 people with essential job readiness skills, including resume writing, job applications, and job placement. Our caseworker also builds connections with companies seeking new hires, enabling us to refer clients to potential employers.

For clients needing to improve their English language skills, our English teacher provides ESL classes and one-on-one tutoring. In the future, Middle East and North Africa Family Services plans to expand this program to include interview preparation and develop training videos on additional job readiness skills.

Social Services

At MENA Family Services, based in Houston, Texas, we provide culturally and linguistically tailored case management and advocacy for immigrants, refugees, and the local community. Our mission is to ensure that individuals have access to essential resources to meet daily needs and adapt to life’s evolving challenges. Our professional caseworkers conduct in-depth intake assessments to understand each person’s unique circumstances, connect them with eligible public benefits and programs, and guide them through application processes. Regardless of their primary focus, all our caseworkers are dedicated to helping clients find resources that best support their specific needs. By assisting our community members in overcoming personal challenges, strengthening family bonds, and promoting healthier, more successful lives, Middle East and North Africa Family Services is making a meaningful and lasting impact.

Health Navigators

Our case managers assist individuals in understanding and accessing healthcare services. They guide patients through the complexities of the healthcare system, ensuring timely medical care and connecting them with necessary resources. Their roles include educating patients about treatment options, coordinating care among providers, and addressing barriers to healthcare access. By offering personalized support, Health Academy Navigators aim to improve health outcomes and enhance the patient experience.

Maternal and Child Health Educational Programs

Staff at MENA family services help pregnant women and new mothers apply for available programs and act as liaisons, helping to provide better communication for the MENA and Muslim community. We educate women on how to use their state benefits while shopping, and we provide two educational workshops per year. Women are educated on how to live healthfully and are given guidance on nutrition during their pregnancy and postpartum. Undocumented clients qualify for our programs.

Children on the spectrum

Supporting children on the autism spectrum within Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) communities involves accessing culturally sensitive resources and support groups. In the Houston area, while specific groups tailored exclusively to MENA families may be limited.
